Does the statement “I will do it” constitute a divorce?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. I made a firm intention to divorce my wife and I said to myself, “I will do it.” Does this constitute a divorce?

A. The statement, “I will do it” of a husband to his wife does not constitute a divorce.

A divorce will only take place by uttering or writing the words of divorce.
