Having a moustache

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q:  What is the Islamic ruling on having a mustache, I was told that if the food touches your mustache it becomes haram how true is that statement

A: Salaams,

Having a moustache is allowed. However, it must not be long to such an extent that while eating or drinking it will be touched. Therefore, while keeping a moustache, one must trim the hair over the upper lip so that it does not cover the lip and food and drink does not touch it while being consumed.

If food touches the moustache while eating, then it will not become haram. However, it will be disliked and reprehensible. (Kitabul Fatawa vol.6 pgs. 150,151)
