DOING GOOD DEEDS TO GET JANNAH

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

QUESTION:

As Salaamu Alaikum,

If a person feels encouraged to do a lot of ibadat and good works thinking about the rewards in jannah, is it considered to be shirk? For example if a person thinks that she can get anything she wishes in jannah, she can marry the man of her choice and be happy forever in her eternal life and feels encouraged to do ibadats to get to jannah, is it considered to be shirk? Is it like she is doing all this for other than the pleasure of Allah?

ANSWER:

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

No, this is not shirk. In fact, doing something to get Jannah is doing it for the sake of Allah. Allah Himself says in Surah As Saffat verse 61 ‘For the like of the bounties in paradise, let the doers of good deeds, do their good deeds’. It means that in order to achieve the bounties of Allah in paradise, the believers should do good works.

And Allah Knows best
