Disposing interest monies

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Mufti Sahib,

I collected my beneficiary money and it has a percentage of interest in it.

  1. Who can I give this money to e.g. Family member, mosque, buy gifts etc…?
  2. If you are unable to know the amount of interest the money has. How to deal with that?

Jazakallah

Wa Alaikum Assalaam,

الجواب و بالله التوفيق

  1. You can give this money to a poor and needy person. This person can be from among a family member, Muslim or non-Muslim. You cannot give interest money to a Mosque, nor can you buy gifts with it.
  2. If you are unable to know the amount of the interest money, then you should estimate an amount which you think may be the interest money. Whatever, you estimate it to be, give this amount to the poor and needy.

And Allah Knows Best.
