A Lady Doing Business During Jumuah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Question: As Salaamu Alaikum
Is it permissible for an owner of a business who is a woman, to do business during Jumuah? I read a previous response where you said that a Muslim upon whom Jumuah is compulsory cannot engage in business during Jumuah time. I interpreted that to refer to Muslim men. How does this affect the Muslim woman who runs a business?

Answer:

Wa alaikum as Salaam,

Jumu’ah Salaat is not essential upon a woman. The law in the Quran which states, ‘When the call to Salaah is made on the day of Jumu’ah, then hasten towards the remembrance of Allah and leave off commerce (buying and selling)’ is not applicable to women. Hence, it will be allowed for a woman to conduct business during the time for Jumu’ah. The woman must however perform her Salaah of Dhuhr on time.

And Allah Knows Best.
