Question

Due to unavoidable circumstances, I divorced my wife once. As per the Law of Pakistan and Sharia Law, one divorce is taken as ONLY ONE. Can I re-marry my wife after having lived 1 year away from her, as we both want to get back together?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

If a man divorces his wife once, he has the authority to take her back immediately within her waiting period (iddah) without renewing the marriage contract (aqd).

If the iddah finishes without taking her back, the marriage is considered to be terminated. If they wish to remarry, they can do so by performing the aqd again. 1

Only Allah knows best.
