Question:

Assalamualaikum

When intending to build a masjid, which type of money should be used?

Can I use sadaqah money or should it be lillah?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Answer:

Any donation is permitted for building a masjid, as long as it is not from the obligatory zakāh money.[1]

Money donated for the purpose of ‘sadaqah and ‘lillāh’ are considered donations.

Only Allah knows best
