Question:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah!

Can you be a Muslim if you reject the Hadith as being false and misleading?

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Answer:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuh,

Hadith is a type of wahi called wahi ghair matlu (the unrecited revelation). If a Muslim rejects the Mutawatir Hadith, in other words those Hadith which have been passed down generation to generation and it is logically impossible for the number of narrators that have narrated it to have fabricated it, he leaves the fold of Islam. However, the one who rejects Ahad Hadith, he will be sinful.[1]
