Question:

Assalamu ‘alaykum

I understand that in maliki fiqh you must sit in tawarruk in all sittings however I find this position uncomfortable and cannot concentrate in my salah would it be sufficient to pray in iftirash style? I follow maliki fiqh

Answer:

Bismillah

In response to your question;

In the Maliki school of thought, it is recommended that one sit in the tawarruk style during salah.

This is a sunna and if someone is to adopt another style of sitting then it will be considered to have been done but the sunna according to the sitting style specified by the Maliki school of thought will not have been completed.

Furthermore, one should aim to carry out acts of worship in accordance to the school of thought they follow and not to vary in following different schools of thought regarding different acts.

If one is facing evident hardship that there is fear it will be extremely difficult (or the illness will worsen) then there is allowance as per the Quranic verse ‘… and (Allah) has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty…’ (Surah Al-Hajj: Verse 78)
