Mosques being populated but empty in guidance

Question:

In many speeches I heard people says that some people heard that masjid is crying (Those masjeed which are not in use) that no one is praying in them? What is authenticity of these statements? Is it correct to believe in these things?

Answer:

Bismillah

I have not come across a hadith where it says that the Masjids are crying.

There is however a hadith which says that before the end of time the Masajids will be populated but empty in terms of lack of guidance in the hearts of people. Saaiduna Ali raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) once said that “A time will come when Islam will be only for the namesake and the Quran will only be a symbol; there will be masajids will be populated, but, in reality it will be empty…” (Imam Baihaqi in his Shu’abul Iman)
