Prohibited celebrations during Muharram and Safar

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I know that nikaah is not prohibited in any month of year. But my question is that, other ceremonies like birthdays, engagements, and any other celebration is permissible in Muharam and Safar month?

Bismillaah

A: There is no basis for a birthday in Islam, and an engagement is not supposed to be a celebration at any time of the year. It is just a confirmation of the nikaah.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
