Using soaps and shampoos with non-halaal ingredients

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is it allowed to use widely advertised shampoos and soaps with non-halaal ingredients?

Is it allowed if it is for medical reasons like to cure dandruff, acne, etc.?

Bismillaah

A: If through non-halaal ingredients you are referring to alcohol, then the Shar’ee ruling is that if the shampoo contains alcohol which is made from besides dates or grapes and does not contain any impure ingredient, it will be permissible to use. If it contains any impure ingredient, one should refrain from using it. One should look for a halaal alternative.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
