Assalamualaikum Respected Alim
Please can you kindly advise if the two names we have chosen to name our child is Islamic and good?
1. Zuhayra
2. Azariya
JazakAllah Khair
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Allah Ta’āla make your child a coolness for your eyes and a means of reward in this world and the hereafter. Aameen
Zuhayrah (زُهَيْرَة) is the diminutive form of زهرة which means a small flower.[i] It also has the meaning of bright and radiant.
Azariyah (أزرية) is made up of the root letters ر –ز–أ, which holds the meaning of might, power and strength.[ii]
In principle, we are encouraged to keep good and meaningful names for our children as names have an influence on the child’s personality and character. If a word does not have a bad meaning, it is permissible to keep it as a name. The two names in the query are suitable.
Translation: Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said, “On the Day of Resurrection, you will be called by your names and by your father’s names, so give yourselves good names.” (Sunan Abu Dawood: 4950)[iii]
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best.
