Prohibition of slapping the face

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

1) Is hitting/ disciplining on the face, for example slapping etc allowed in Islam?

2) Is there any reference to this statement?

‘The place where the ustad (teacher) hits the student, will not be touched by the fire of Jahannam’

Answer

1) There are several Hadiths that prohibit slapping on the face.

(See Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 2559, Chapter on avoiding the face when hitting a slave, Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2612 and Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq, Hadith: 17950-17952.)

Unfortunately many people are negligent of this ruling. May Allah Ta’ala guide us all. Amin.

2) I haven’t been able to locate any reference for this statement in the Hadith books.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
