Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) would walk ahead of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)

Is there any mention in Hadith that the Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) would walk in front of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) [to ward of any danger] and they would [entrust] the angels to [protect from behind]?

Answer

Yes. Sayyiduna Jabir (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says, “When Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would walk, the Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) would walk in front of him and they would leave the angels to [protect from behind].”

Imams Ibn Majah, Ahmad and Ibn Hibban (rahimahumullah) have recorded this narration.

(Sunan Ibn Majah: 246, Musnad Ahmad, vol. 3 pg. 302 and pg. 332, Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan: 6312)

‘Allamah Busiri (rahimahullah) has declared the narrators of Ibn Majah reliable (thiqat) and Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic.

(Zawaid Ibn Majah, Hadith: 76. Also see: Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 6798)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
