The valour of Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu)

Did Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) kill ‘Amr ibn ‘Abdi Wudd in the Battle of Khandaq? Is this authentic?

Answer

Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has recorded the following Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma):

“…[On the Day of Khandaq], From the tribe of ‘Banu ‘Amir ibn Luayy’, ‘Amr ibn Abdi Wudd was killed. ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) had killed him in a dual”

(Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 3 pg. 32. Declared authentic by Imam Hakim and Hafiz Dhahabi concurs)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
