Should I Wash My Private Parts Each Time I Do Wudu Because of Being Excused Due to Incontinence?

Question: Assalam alaikum,

1. I have a weak bladder so I cant keep my wudu while praying. Do I need to do istinja everytime I do wudu?

2. Is it necessary for me to sit down and pray? Should I put something around the area to stop the leaking or would a pad be sufficient?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

(1) No, you do not need to perform istinja’ every time you do wudu because the istinja’ is a sunna, and not obligatory.

(2) Yes, you would need to take the means such that you can pray without any urine exiting, even if that means praying seated on the floor, for example.

May Allah grant you every shifa’ and `afiya. I’d advise consulting a doctor who can help diagnose your condition so that you can seek out the best solution for your worship thereby.

And Allah knows best.

wassalam,
