Is it Permissible for men to wear White Gold?

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Shafiifiqh.com

Question:
Is it permissible to wear white gold for a man? Thanks

Answer:

“It is not permissible for a man to wear jewelry made of gold.” [Minhaj 1:387]
The term “white gold” may be applied to the metal platinum or an alloy of gold and at least one white metal.  The metal platinum is not gold, and there is no indication to show the prohibition of its usage for a man, because of the principle ‘the basis of a thing is permissibility unless there is a prohibition of Islamic Law’.

However, the white gold, which is a mixture of gold with at least one white metal, falls within the rules of gold. Therefore, a man’s using it is forbidden.
