Will the Angels Die?

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Shaykh Irshaad Sedick

Question

On the Day of Judgment, Allah will command that the soul be taken from Mika’il first, then from Israfil, and finally from Jibril.

My question is, why do angels have to die?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate. May Allah guide us to that which pleases Him, forgive us for our shortcomings, and alleviate our difficulties, Amin.

Indeed, the angels will also experience death, which is the opinion of the scholars of Islam. Imam al-Munawi cited the consensus of the scholars regarding the matter. [Fayd al-Qadir]

Allah, the Majestic, states: “Everything will be destroyed except His Face.” [Quran, 28:88]

Based on the verse above and other evidence, everything in existence will die or be destroyed, except Allah. The verse above, mentioning the destruction of everything, will only be true if the Angels also perish, and Allah knows best.

I pray this is of benefit.
