Ruling on Inscribing and Hanging Quranic Verses on Walls

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Darul Iftaa Jordan
I wanted to hang a framed Quranic verse on a wall of a mosque; however, the people there objected to that under the pretext that the Quran has been sent down to be acted upon and not for decorative purposes; what is the ruling of Islamic Sharia on this issue?

Answer:
All perfect praise be to Allah; The Lord of The Worlds, and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions. It is permissible to inscribe Quranic verses or to hang them on walls within frames. However, it is obligatory to honor and protect them against offence, degradation or getting thrown into the rubbish. Allah, The Almighty, says(what means), "Such (is his state): and whoever holds in honour the symbols of God, (in the sacrifice of animals), such (honour) should come truly from piety of heart."{Al-Hajj/32}. It was stated in the book, "Al-Fatawa Al-Hindeyah(5/323),"Even if verses were hung on walls, some scholars said, we hope it is permissible and some regarded it reprehensible for fear that they could fall and get stepped on." And Allah knows best.
