What is the Qasidah Burdah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Question

What is Qasidah Burdah and what’s its significance and what’s the benefits?

Answer

Qasidah Burdah is a poem written in praise of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam; it consists of nearly 160 couplets.  It was composed by Abu Bakr Al-Buseeri rahmatullahi alayhi; he was an aalim and a poet.  He had spent his life in serving the khalifa and composing poetry.  In his old age he suffered a stroke and was bed-ridden.  While lying on his bed, he composed this poem in which he mentioned the attributes of Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam, and then prayed for regaining good health.  He saw Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam in a dream, who told him to recite the poem.  He was extremely pleased and gave him a Burdah (a sheet) to cover his body, which Buseeri did and was immediately cured.
