What would the ruling be on the sale of land parcel about acre we have acquired for society with membership funds. We intended to erect Islamic Center on it but have in the meantime acquired a functional appropriate Bible school building/center that served our needs better. Can we sell off this land which was earmarked initially for as functional Islamic center not particularly as a Mosque (only). And use the revenue generated to build land adjacent to our center and or use such fund for renovation of our current center to make it more practically functional.
If a piece of land has been bought for some religious purposes and has not been given as “waqf” then it would be fine to sell that land for necessary reasons and buy some other property with the proceeds, or to invest the proceeds in some philanthropic causes. However, if the property has been donated as “waqf” then we have to use the property for the exact cause for which is donated.
