Divorce through US courts

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

I did sign a paper for divorce asked by my wife through US courts and courts approved it now i have a question is my divorce took effect or it is only one talaq counted

جزاک اللہ خیر

الجواب واللہ ھو المعین

In this situation, since you signed the divorce papers, the divorce has taken place.

If the divorce papers mentioned the number of divorces, same number will take effect or according to the intent of the initiator of divorce.

In absence of these two conditions, only one divorce will be established.
