The Ruling on Breeding Snakes for Profit

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: Is it permissible to own and breed snakes for profit?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

Yes, it would be permitted to breed and sell snakes within the limits of any local laws restricting or regulating such ownership. [Ibn `Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

This is on the condition that they are well looked after and given the rights due to them as the creation of Allah.

It is reported that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Fear Allah in [your treatment of] animals.” [Abu Dawud]

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam
