Were the Divine Books Revealed in Arabic

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: The Quran mentions the names of Ambiya in Arabic, however, where they referred to as these names by their followers. I.e was Ibrahim (as) called Ibrahim? 2. Where the divine books excluding the Quran revealed in Arabic? 3. Did Musa (as) speak to Allah in Arabic.

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are well, insha’Allah.

The short answer is no. I asked Sh `Ali Hani, a master of the Qur’an, Exegesis and its related sciences, who said that the historical evidence would seem to indicate that they spoke an ancient language from which Arabic, Hebrew and other Semitic languages were derived.

The same would appear to apply to their revealed scriptures.

And Allah knows best.

Wassalam,
