Does White Discharge That Dries Yellowish Mark the End of My Period?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question

At the end of my menses, I see a white discharge that dries yellowish. Is it fine to perform a ritual bath (ghusl) and start praying at that point?

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

I pray this finds you in the best of states.

Yes, seeing a white discharge indicates that your menstrual period has ended and that the duty for you to pray on time is back. [Maydani, Lubab]

You would not be required to repeat the ritual bath (ghusl) in the case that you saw a yellowish stain on your undergarments after the end of your menstrual period. Normal white discharge can often change color after oxidization, and you can assume that to be the case.

The basis is that your menstrual period ends when you see clear or white discharge or no discharge at all. The way to make this judgment is to use a kursuf (a piece of cotton or the like placed at the labial lips) because colors can often oxidize making them seem different from what they actually are. (Hence white or clear can look yellow.)
