Question
Assalamu ‘alaykum.
Is it permissible to get composite teeth bonding to close a gap in the teeth?
Answer
Wa ‘alaykum assalam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh.
I pray you are well.
Yes, composite bonding to remove chips, crack, and other such defects in teeth will be permissible. This would also apply to filling a gap.
In general, permanent enhancements to the body that appear as though they are one’s natural form are impermissible. They contain an aspect of deception and altering of Allah’s creation, which are both impermissible. In this case, the use of veneers and other methods to get the perfect Hollywood smile would be impermissible. (Usmani, Takmila Fath al Mulhim)
One lesson to draw from all of this is that Allah distributes His gifts amongst His creation. Some have what others don’t. We should show thanks for what we have. Allah loves to be thanked.
May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.
