What is Considered a Sunna Beard Length?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question:

What is considered a Sunna beard length and how do we measure it?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,

Sunna Length of Beard

The Sunna length of the beard is a fist length. [‘Ayni, al-Binaya Sharh al-Hidaya]

Measuring the Beard

Ibn Salim al-Muqaff’a narrates, “I saw Ibn ‘Umar grabbing his beard then cutting what was more than the palm.” [Abu Dawud]

Based on this narration and others like it, one would begin measuring the beard from the bottom of the chin, not the chin itself. Lihya refers to the beard. Had he grabbed his chin the narrator would have used a different word.

I hope this helps,
Allah knows best.
