I Accidentally Ate After Fajr. Does My Fast Count?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: Assalamu alaykum

During Ramadan I jumped out of bed a bit disoriented believing Fajr didn’t enter and ate a piece of watermelon before realising I did consume that piece of watermelon after Fajr. Do I need to make it up?

Answer:  Walaikum assalam,

I hope you’re doing well, insha’Allah.

You would need to refrain (imsak) the rest of the day; and would have full reward for the fast. However, since accidents invalidate the fast (unlike forgetfulness), you would need to make up the fast.
