Is It Pemissible to Drink Fizzy Drinks Despite It Being Unhealthy?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Salman Younas

Question: Assalam aleykum

I enjoy drinking fizzy drinks (such as cola, fanta etc) however I am aware that they are harmful to the body and have no health benefits whatsoever. Are they permissible from time to time?

Answer: assalamu alaykum

The basis is that drinking fizzy drinks, such as coke, is permissible. The harm that results from drinking these drinks is not sufficient to unconditionally deem them impermissible in normal circumstances.

However, given the negative health consequences of drinking fizzy drinks, it may be best to avoid them when reasonably possible or minimize one’s consumption.
