Am I A Disbeliever for Not Praying?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: Assalam alaikum,

Is it true that leaving the prayer makes a person a disbeliever?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

No, that is not the position of the vast majority of legal scholars. Rather, the person who does not pray is a sinful believer, and not a disbeliever. Holding otherwise is a dangerous position, and it is not the way of Ahl al-Sunna. [see: Does Neglecting the Prayer Entail Disbelief?]
