Praying in a state of intoxication

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Sidi Fadi Qutub Zada

If someone is intoxicated (with alcohol) can he pray? Or is it haram for him to pray in that state (just like the ruling of prohibition of prayer while in the state of major ritual impurity).

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

If someone is intoxicated and overcome to the point that he or she is swaying while walking and talking deliriously and irrationally, then his or her ablution is nullified. [Hashiyat Ibn Abidin, 1:97]

This entails that it would not be valid to pray. As for someone who has not reached this level of drunkenness, his or her ablution would be valid and so the prayer.

And Allah alone gives success
