Is it valid to purchase a membership to some kind of organization/company where the membership would provide great discounts on various items? i.e. admission, parking, in-store items, and so on?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

If the ‘right’ acquired by the membership is sufficiently defined that it would not normally lead to dispute—a sign of which is for such a membership be prevalent, accepted, and legally permitted in society—then it would be permitted.

The contract and its terms have to be free of other corrupting and invalidating elements, though—such as gharar, riba, corrupt conditions, etc.

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
