Is it permissible to listen to Sami Yusuf’s nasheeds with drums and duffs?

From Sami Yusuf’s web-site:
He was born into a musical family of Azeri origin and thus music played an integral part in his life. Sami’s initial training came from his father, who is an internationally renowned composer, poet, and a musician.

Sami studied music at several institutions with renowned composers and musicians including composers from the Royal Academy of Music in London, one of the world most prestigious music institutions.

These are some of the instruments Sami Yusuf plays and which the band play: piano, violin, guitar and others.

These instruments are impermissible to play and listen to, since Sami Yusuf makes use of such instruments it would not be permissible to listen to them.

“Musical instruments that are exclusively designed for entertainment and dancing, and create charm, pleasure and bliss on their own (even without the singing), such as the drum, violin, guitar, fiddle, flute, lute, mandolin, harmonium, piano, string, etc are all impermissible and unlawful (haram) to use.”

Rather than write an article from scratch about the impermissibility of music and musical instruments, I reproduce below a superb, detailed discussion on music by the Respected Mufti Muhammad of Darul Iftaa, Leicester to reinforce the basic essentials of this topic.

May Allah inspire us with the truth and save us from the machinations of Shaytaan and our self-desires. Ameen
