Q: If ones Masjid went with the Saudi announcement of Ramadaan and it is known that the Saudis in this area choose to keep the the month of Sha’baan at 30 days. What should one do about the Eid Salaah when there Masjid will be observing Eid and ending the fast early.
A: The Hadith commands that we commence the month with the sighting of the moon and we terminate the month with the sighting of the moon. If there is a body of reliable Ulama in the place where you are residing, then follow those Ulama in regard to the sighting of the moon.
باب ما جاء والفطر يوم تفطرون والأضحى يوم تضحون حدثنا محمد بن إسماعيل نا إبراهيم بن المنذر نا إسحق بن جعفر بن محمد قال حدثني عبد الله بن جعفر عن عثمان بن محمد عن المقبري عن أبي هريرة أن النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم قال الصوم يوم تصومون والفطر يوم تفطرون والأضحى يوم تضحون قال أبو عيسى هذا حديث غريب حسن وفسر بعض أهل العلم هذا الحديث فقال إنما معنى هذا الصوم والفطر مع الجماعة وعظم الناس (جامع الترمذي 1/150)
عن أبي هريرة : قال قال النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم لا تقدموا الشهر بيوم ولا بيومين إلا أن يوافق ذلك صوما كان يصومه أحدكم صوموا لرؤيته وأفطروا لرؤيته فإن غم عليكم فعدوا ثلاثين ثم أفطروا (جامع الترمذي )
