Paying the Zakaat of Another Without his Consent

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My grandfather opened a bank account for me, he used to bank money for me, thus he was in control of my bank account which he opened he used to deposit money every month, pay my zakaat for years but should not tell me is my zakaat paid.

A: If you had control over the account then the money belongs to you and you are liable to pay the zakaat. If it was paid without your consent then the zakaat is not valid.
