Keeping certified copies of one’s ID

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I wanted to know if it is permissible to make a few copies of my ID and certify and keep it for future use? Will this be counted as photography. Should I then not make any copies but when the need arises then I must make 1 copy, certify it and then use it?

Bismillaah

A: If there is no need to have the copy with the photograph you may do it without the photograph. If there is a genuine need then Allah Ta`ala will forgive you insha Allah.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
