Responding to people on social media

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I just want to know that I shared some Ahaadith on Facebook but one person commented on these Ahaadith using very bad words nauzubillah. I don’t know who he or she is. It seems like a girl’s name. Anyway, he or she wrote too much against my post. I tried to control my anger but I could not, so I personally messaged him or her. I wrote to her bad words too. I don’t know if what I did was right or wrong?

Bismillaah

A: To retaliate to the extent of pain that you had suffered is permissible. However, with this modern technology of facebook etc. there is a lot of abuse. Hence, it is better that you do no reply to such people.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
