Using the word “Saheb” when addressing someone

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Muslims used to name some Islamic scholars as “Sahib so and so”. I mean, it is the title of the Englishman. Is it permissible to call them as such?

Bismillaah

A: It is permissible. This is an urdu word and a title used for showing respect and honour. It is not specific to the title of an Englishman.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
