Taking an oath that one will only marry an Aalim

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

1. If a girl made a qasam that she will only marry an aalim and then she gets a proposal from a person who is not an aalim but she likes his deen and aqlaaqh, so can she break the qasam?

2. Also, if she breaks the qasam and marries him, then how many kafarrahs will she have to give as she cannot remember how many times the qasam was taken?

Bismillaah

A:

1. If she marries a non-aalim the qasam will break. She should then do the kaffarah.

2. Only one kaffarah needs to be given.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
