Hosting a soccer tournaments for Hifz students

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If we have a soccer tournament amongst our students from the Hifz class in my area.

1. After the tournament can a reward be given for the winner or rather can a reward be given to all the particapants for their participation in the event?

2. If rewards can be given, can we give medals?

3. Thirdly, the tournament is held in a private arena and a males only event. Entry is denied to any player who does not comply to a dress code requirement; 3 quarter shorts, etc.

Keeping the above in mind, do the Ulama advise having soccer tournaments for Hifz boys? Is it against the Mizaaj of Shariat?

Bismillaah

A: Avoid all this. Many a times the way these games are structured or the prize is structured is impermissible. Further to promote these types of sports where they begin to take a liking for professional sports where kuffaar are taken as heroes, is it not shameful and disgusting.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
