The qur’an describing the earth to be flat

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Allah Ta’ala says in the Quraan that the earth is flat and Zul Qarnain saw the sun that it rises from dust or any thing else. But it is scientifically proven that earth is a globe or like a ball and the sun is in the sky not on earth. So how will we satisfy the non-Muslims?

Bismillaah

A: The terms of the Qur’aan, for example, the rising of the sun or the place from where the sun rises from, are  the literal meaning. They refer to the sight from the side of the viewer. This has got nothing to do with science. The viewer sees it to be rising in this manner.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
