Q: I want to ask about “mahar”. Should it be paid on the very first night of the wedding? Is it permissible to delay paying some of the mahr or all of the mahr on the wedding night?
A: Mahar is the right of the wife. Hence, she has the right to ask for her right immediately after the nikaah. However, if she is happy to give the husband respite in paying the mahar, it will be permissible for her to do so.
