Remaining a Muslim after committing sin

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If a Muslim tells a lie intentionally or unintentionally or by mistake or he breaks an oath if he can’t keep it or breaks it intentionally or because he forgot or he does not pay someone’s amanat will he remain a Muslim?

Bismillaah

A: Yes, however he should make tawbah to Allah Ta’ala for the sin he had committed and thereafter he should pay the kaffarah for breaking the oath.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
