Advising someone who has an eating disorder

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I know someone who has an eating disorder; when advised to eat by her parents she refuses and advises that she is putting on ‘too much weight’. Is there a ruling in Islam regarding this to explain to her that what she is doing is wrong?

Bismillaah

A: Losing weight as per one’s own discretion can have detrimental effects. This should be done together with the consultation of a reliable experienced physician. They will guide her how to balance and moderate her eating habits.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
