Marrying Outside My Culture: Choosing Love Over Tradition

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I come from a Gujrati speaking family. I wish to marry a Urdu boy. This displeases my parents as they only want a Gujrati boy for me. There only reason being that he is Urdu. He is of good character and Islamic values. Would it be right for me to go against there wishes and marry this boy?

Bismillaah

A: Listen to what your parents have to say as they have more experience in these matters. Further, any contact with ghayr mahrams and strange men is not permissible.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
