Skipping the Pre-Dawn Meal (suḥūr) When Fasting

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mathabah.org

Question:

Is it a must, meaning an obligation to have suhūr when making up for fasts one has missed in Ramadān?

Answer:

In the Name of Allāh, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Jazāk Allāh Khayr/ Thank you for your question.

Having the pre-dawn meal (suḥūr) is a recommended prophetic act. If one misses it, fasting will still be valid, in both cases of fasting, the actual fast, as well as the make-up fast.

“Have the suḥūr (pre-dawn meal), as there is a blessing in it.” (Bukhārī)

And Allāh Knows Best
