Did not offer witr prayer

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwa.org.au
My husband and i would like to know that if you make the intention to pray your witr namaaz in tahajjud namaaz and if you happen not to wake up to pray tahajjud namaaz what happens to our witr namaaz? does it become kazaa? what is the protocol around it?

jazakallah kair

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

It is wajib (compulsory) to offer witr prayer. If a person did not offer witr prayer, it is compulsory on him to do qadaa of it.

If a person is not sure if he can wake up for tahajjud, he should offer his witr prayer before going to sleep.

And Allah knows best.
