Changing intention after takbeer tahreema

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwa.org.au
_ Is ones prayer accepted if he changes his intention during his prayer?

For example: It is the time of Maghrib and I make the intention of Asr instead. During the prayer I remember that it is Maghrib time and not Asr so I change my intention. Is my prayer accepted?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

_ For the intention to be valid, it must precede the takbeer tahreema. Hence, if one changes his intention after starting the salat, his intention will not be valid.

However, if one makes the intention of one prayer in his heart, such as Maghrib, but he utters the name of another prayer by mistake, such as Asr, then the intention he made in his heart will be taken into consideration. (Raddul Muhtaar: 1/414-417)

And Allah knows best.
