Zakat to the offspring’s of Saaiduna Ali

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Zakat to the offspring’s of Saaiduna Ali

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

As mentioned before, the children of Saaiduna Ali Radiallahu Anhu are not from the Ahle Bait.   Saaiduna Ali Radiallahu Anhu is considered from the Ahle Bait because he was the son in law of the Prophet of Allah Sallallalhu Alahi Wasalam.  However, zakat cannot be given to the offspring of Saaiduna Ali Radiallahu Anhu as zakat cannot be given to the ‘Aal’ (family) of the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam.  Those persons that are from the family of Saaiduna Ali Radiallahu Anhu, Saaiduna Aqeel, Saaiduna Jafar and Saaiduna Abbas Radiallahu Anhu are regarded as being from the family of the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam.   (Aapke Masaail p.390 v.3)

Finally, not all Alawis are Shias. Many are Sunnis.
